FXU Tai Chi society is organising some new Tai Chi and Qigong classes on Penryn and Falmouth Campus. We are aiming to have at least one class per week in each location in the evenings.

The benefits to students

I asked Deepseek R1 – who is Chinese – what might be the benefits to students of Tai Chi and Qigong? and this is what it said:

Discover the Power of Tai Chi: Enhance Your University Experience

In the bustling environment of Falmouth University, finding balance and harmony can be a challenge. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our new Tai Chi Society, dedicated to helping students cultivate mental clarity, physical well-being, and emotional resilience through this ancient practice.

Improves Concentration:
Tai Chi’s slow, deliberate movements require focus and attention, akin to meditation in motion. This mindfulness can enhance your concentration, proving beneficial for academic success by helping you stay focused during studies.

Boosts Energy with Qigong Exercises:
Qigong, integral to Tai Chi, combines movement, breathing techniques, and meditation to cultivate and balance qi—your vital energy. Regular practice often results in increased energy levels, keeping you vibrant and active throughout your day.

Enhances Mental Faculties:
The meditative aspects of Tai Chi improve mental clarity and acuity, enhancing problem-solving abilities by fostering a calm and focused mind—essential for tackling academic challenges.

Inspiration and Creativity:
Engaging in Tai Chi’s flowing movements can stimulate creativity, ideal for students in artistic fields. The practice encourages a mindset open to new ideas and inspiration.

Sharpens Intuition:
By enhancing inner awareness, Tai Chi helps develop intuition, guiding decision-making and problem-solving with greater ease and confidence.

Relaxation and Stress Relief:
Tai Chi’s slow movements and deep breathing reduce stress and anxiety, promoting relaxation and emotional balance—vital for managing university life.

Overall Wellbeing:
Regular practice improves physical health through better posture, balance, and flexibility. Mentally, it supports emotional resilience and a sense of calm, contributing to overall well-being.
